In 1995 I published Pioneers and Patriots Over the Blue Mountain, a compilation of civil , pastoral and public data of the Colonial/Revolutionary period which focused on early families from then Brunswick Twp Berks Couty Pa. The purpose for the work was to document hundreds of men from this area whose participation in the Revolution was largely overlooked in histories of both Berks and Schuylkill Counties. Included in the appendix are copies of company rosters which include some of the 1st generation American Bensingers.

The book is sold out and out of print. It is possible that Berks County Genealogical Society POBox 305 Kutztown, Pa 19530 [610-683-9420] may have a copy, or pehaps the Historical Society of Schuylkill County at Pottsville may also have remaining stock.

An excerpt from that publication which you may use follows:

Antonius Bensinger is listed on ship Phoenix which arrived at the Port of Philadelphia 30 Sep 1743. His age, marital status, and whether he was accompanied is not given. He married Magdalena FREY on 2 Sep 1750, recorded at Mertz Church, Dryville, Berks County, PA. The marriage entry indicates that he was a "master tailor from Europe" Magdalena was born on 10 Jun 1730 in or near Neckarbischofsheim, Germany, a daughter of J Andrew and Catherine Barbara [RITTER] FREY. The J. Andrew FREY family arrived 1733 on Ship Samuel. [See Burgert's V 16 Pub PA Germany Soc 1983 for the FREY family]

Antonius and Magdalena had the following children:

Maria Barbara was born on 6 Sep 1751, died on 15 Apr 1831 [13?]. She was confirmed in 1766 in Weisenberg per Daniel Schumacher's Register. She married Peter DREHER, a son of Mathias, born 1752. He died 2 Jul 1822 according to records at the Zion Red Church. Peter DREHER was in Captain Weston's Brunswick unit in 1779.

Anna Maria was born about 1752; confirmed in 1773 in Zion Red Church on Pentecost.

John Jacob, "4 weeks old" at baptism on Pentecost 1753 at Zion Moselem Church. John Jacob SCHENCK and Elizabeth HEROLD were sponsors. He married Eva. They were sponsors at Friedens Little Schuylkill Church at 1800 for J Jacob s/o Adam KNITTLE. They were also sponsors for children at the Zion Red Church. Jacob served with Captain Whetstone's Brunswick unit in 1779.

Johan George was born 8 Apr 1755; baptised 15 Jun 1755 at Zion Moselem Church. George BREINER and Anna Maria FREY were sponsors. He died on 6 Sep 1815. [some Red Church translations "Huntzinger"]. George also served in Whetstone's Brunswick Battalion in 1779. He married Maria Christina DREHER, born 22 May 1757 in Windsor Township of Berks, a daughter of Mathias and Barbara, and a sister of Peter, above. She died 2 Aug 1834, buried at Red Church Cemetery. Sponsors for Christina d/o Philip and Sophia REBER at Friedens Little Schuylkill, they had children baptised at Zion Red Church.

Daniel was born on 3 Jul 1757; christened on 30 Jul 1757 in Zion Moselem Church, Daniel ORTH and his wife, Sofia were sponsors. He died 27 Jan 1831 and is buried at Zion Red Church. Daniel was also in Whetstone's unit in 1779. His will mentions his wife [Barbara in codicil] grandsons Daniel, Conrad and William; Catherina w/o William MATZ. Recorded at Schuylkill bk 1 p171. He married Maria Barbara WEINMAN on 7 Dec1779. Barbara was born 18 Nov 1759; died 19 Mar 1840, buried in Zion Red Church Cemetery.

Solomon, listed in some family histories, born about 1759, believed to have married Magdalena HUMMEL.

Frederick was born about 1762 in the "Allemangel", died on 25 Aug 1841, buried at Friedens Little Schuylkill Cemetery. He was in Captain Whetstone's Battalion in 1780. In the US Census of 1840 he was listed as a Revolutionary War Pensioner living at East Brunswick Township. He married Maria Margaretha WEINMAN b1754, a daughter of Michael, and sister of Barbara, above.

Elizabeth, confirmed at the Zion Red Church 1777 is believed to be another child. A family history states that she married Joseph SPROCK about 1799.

Rosina was born 23 Jun 1763 in Lynn Township, now Lehigh County, christened on 4 Jul 1763. Elizabeth GRIMM was sponsor, she was the widow of Conrad GRIMM who was buried that day, Rosina is believed to have married a WEBBER.

Eva Magdalena was born 1 Jan 1765, christened by Pastor Schumacher at "Allemangel", her sponsors were John Adam ARNDT and Eva Margaretha HOLT. She is believed to have married Johan Heinrich BURGER.

Anna Catherina was born 1767, christened at "Allemangel" 17 Nov 1767; Conrad BEILMAN and his wife, Catherine were sponsors. She is believed to have married a FLICKENGER.

Anna Susanna was born 8 Aug 1771 in Brunswick Township, Berks now Schuylkill Co. PA. She was christened at the Zion Red Church 20 Oct 1771, Susanna BOSSERT, "Rudy's single daughter" was sponsor. She is believed to have married Valentine RITTER and to have died at Turone Twp., Perry Co. PA.
