Hello all.
I am Ellyn Rae Smith Grady decendant of the Gordon, PA
Bensinger/Smith line. My brother Wally Smith (Wallysmi) has been in
contact with you regarding our branch of the family. This is what I know. I
am looking for William Bensinger's father and mother to link to the other
Bensinger. I am not sure we are linked to Antonius, Beneville, et al. Any
help will be appreciated. I recently picked up the quest begun during the
days of the microfisch. I now live in Birmingham, Alabama and must rely on
my brother to do leg work. Imagine my surprise when he found David's
wonderful Bensinger web page and "kin folk" around the corner. I look forward
to hearing from you.
In 1880 William Bensinger (age 33) and his wife Almida ( age 38) appear on
the 1880 Census rolls of South Butler Township in the County of Schuykill PA.
They lived in the Village of Gordon. Our Grandmother Almeda Bensinger and
her husband Raymond Bramley Smith resided in Gordon all their lives. Almeda
Smith was the granddaughter of William and Almida. Her father was listed in
this cenus record as George F, age 11. along with John A (13), Edward J. (9),
Robert W. ( 4), Harry K. (2) and Martha A (2). Almida was a housekeeper and
William was a Superintendent. All were listed as having mother and father
born in PA and they were both born in PA.
Our William Bensinger then disappears (dies?) sometime between 1880 and 1900.
We have George F(Franklin), now 30 years old his wife Minnie (30) and His
son George Ardell (2) and our grandmother Almeda (5 months) living in the
Gordon Borough of Schuykill County in the 1900 Census. We have a William
Bensinger buried in Cherryville Cemetary now know as Ravine near Pine Grove
PA. William Bensinger's marker reads Born 3/15/1843 and died 5/22/1898.
which would put him about the same age as our William, Also buried in this
same place are Paul Bensinger 1843-1895. Sarah Bensinger ( Daniel
Bensinger's wife) 1816-1897, and John Bensinger 1856-1913. They are all
buried close together.
William's wife, Almida(Almeda?) is found in 1900 living in the Village of
Coplay, Lehigh County, as the head of the household. She is 57 , Son Edward
(28) Harry (22), Daughter Mattie(22), and son Ray (18) live with her. Edward
and Harry are laborers and Ray is a Brakesman.
Questions: Are Daniel and Sarah Bensinger William's parents? Are Paul,
William and John brothers? Is Daniel the son of Catherine Boyer and Michael
Bensinger ?
