His obituary made the first page of the Shenandoah Evening Herald: ANDREW ALEX DIED TODAY AT STATE HOSPITAL Andrew ALEX, one of the best known and most highly regarded Lithuanian residents of Shenandoah, died this morning about 11:00 at the State Hospital at Fountain Springs, from complications. He had been in failing health for about three months and about three weeks ago entered the hospital for treatment hoping he would be benefitted by the treatment there. He however failed to receive much benefit and gradually grew worse until death relieved him this morning. He was born in Russia and came to this country as a young man locating in Shenandoah. He worked in the mines for a time when he purchased the property 300 East Centre Street, where he entered the saloon business conducting the place until a year ago, when he retired. He was one of the most conscientious and strict men in the business and never knowingly violated any of the laws which encompassed the liquor business. He had the respect of all who knew him and was popular among a large circle of friends. He was a member of St. George's Lithuanian Church and was affiliated with the Moose. He married Victoria Rasimas after locating in Shenandoah, and is survived by his wife and three children, Catherine, wife of Joseph Zanecosky, Edward Alex, and Violet, wife of Peter Yanchuck.
