Bensinger Family Reunion (date of August 1907 is penciled in at top of news clipping) An account of the Second Annual Reunion of the descendants of FRITZ BENSINGER, a Revolutionary Patriot who with others came to America at the beginning of the 18th Century and settled about two miles west of New Ringgold, PA., commonly called Smaltz Dahl (Lard Valley) so called on account of the many fat hogs raised there. This farm is know to the present generation as the Bensinger Homestead first being owned by the above named FRITZ BENSINGER who sold it to his son, MICHAEL BENSINGER, who in turn sold it to his son, FRANKLIN B. BENSINGER, SR., and is now owned by the latter's son, FRANKLIN L. BENSINGER. This Second Annual Reunion was held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 1907, and was a sociable and friendly meeting of of the Bensinger Friendschaft. About 140 relatives from Philadelphia, Pottsvile, Port Carbon, Sch. Haven, Mahanoy City, Tamaqua, Pittston, Ringtown, Brandonville and Orwigsburg were present. One providential feature of the occasion was that out of the 108 who attended the Reunion one year ago none died and with the exception of eight, all were present at Saturday's reunion. The day was pleasantly spent in pitching quoits, base ball playing, singing and roving about the farm. Many enjoyed MR. OSCAR MILLER'S automobile rides around the Little Mountain, a distance of about five miles. A balloon ascension was another feature of the day. It arose to a great height and came down in a field near McKeansburg. The Bensinger family as a rule are excellent singers as the name indicates and as any one would verify who heard the old familiar hymn sung, "God be with you till we meet again." Three hearty cheers were then given in honor of the owner of the Homestead, FRANKLIN L. BENSINGER, for his kind hospitality in entertaining such a large crowd. Efforts will be made during the coming year to make it an annual gathering. C.S.B. Submitted by: Jane Bensinger October 08, 1997
